बड़े Numbers से डर क्यों लगता है? | Size Instinct का सच | Per-Capita Thinking | Factfulness – Part 8

जब numbers बहुत बड़े होते हैं, तो हम सही फैसला क्यों नहीं कर पाते?
🧠 Size Instinct क्या है?
Size Instinct मतलब:
- बड़े numbers देखकर डर जाना
- Absolute number को context बिना समझे मान लेना
- “ज़्यादा = ज़्यादा बुरा” मान लेना
Number बड़ा हो सकता है, लेकिन असर छोटा भी हो सकता है
📦 Absolute vs Per-Capita (सबसे बड़ी गलती)
Headlines अक्सर कहती हैं:
- “X देश में 10 लाख cases”
लेकिन सही सवाल:
- कितनी population पर?
- Per-capita rate क्या है?
Absolute number headline बनाता है, Per-capita reality दिखाता है
⚖️ Proportion और Share को समझें
अगर:
- किसी sector में incidents बढ़े
- लेकिन overall activity कई गुना बढ़ गई हो
तो proportion क्या कहती है?
Percent और share देखे बिना numbers misleading होते हैं।
📊 Trend > Snapshot
एक साल का बड़ा number डराता है, लेकिन:
- 5–10 साल का trend clarity देता है
Snapshot emotion देता है, Trend समझ देता है

- “Record number” शब्द
- Comparisons बिना base बताए
- Context गायब
Big sounds big— पर meaning context से आता है
